Village… The Dream That Came True!
In the early 60's Heritage Village was a dream...
an innovative idea, never before attempted by the building
industry in Connecticut… build a condominium, not
in the traditional location of city or suburbia, but in
a rustic setting - in a rural area!
"An idea whose time had come" is
one way Heritage Village was described. More realistically,
the origin and development of this unique, award-winning
condominium community can be traced to a combination of
three factors: Circumstance, Timing and People.
Circumstance: Passage
of the Unit Ownership Act in 1963. With this Act,
the Connecticut General Assembly made possible for
the first time the development of homes based on the
pre-Roman condominium principle.
Timing: Construction of Interstate Highway
84, giving the small town of Southbury, for the first
time in its history, ready access to all New England
and the New York Metropolitan area.
People: Every community, whether it
is a city, a town or a hamlet, creates its own identity.
In Heritage Village, people are the enduring identity.
The developers and their architects have provided
the houses and preserved the natural beauty of the
land, but neither architect nor builder can give a
community its ultimate character. That is the responsibility
of its residents. |
Living in a condominium is a whole new adventure,
quite different from private homes or co-operative ownership.
Condominiums impose a set of values on its unit owners that
include the acceptance of a helping-sharing-working-together
attitude that results in a more fulfilling way of life...for
everyone.
The early Villagers who were entrusted with
the problems of the organization and management, for which
no precedent existed, and operational responsibilities,
for which they had no experience, brought vision, integrity
and imagination to a complex community structure - and made
it work.
Heritage Village continues to attract dedicated
men and women who are just as concerned, just as willing
to serve on committees, Condo Boards or the Master Association
and Foundation Boards and solve whatever issue is on the
table.
